Founder-Market Fit: the sub-score most diligence checklists miss

16 March 2026

Most diligence frameworks check product-market fit and team-market fit as separate, fuzzy questions. Founder-Market Fit is narrower and more mechanical: does the founder's own demonstrated work — code shipped, projects built, the actual content of a pitch deck and company site — line up with the business they're describing?

A technical founder pitching a deeply technical product whose GitHub shows exactly that kind of work is a coherent match. A founder pitching the same product whose technical history doesn't remotely touch the relevant domain isn't automatically disqualifying — plenty of great founders learn a new domain fast — but it's a specific, checkable gap worth a direct conversation rather than an assumption.

This is the sub-score that most benefits from consent-based data specifically: it needs the founder's actual pitch deck and real GitHub activity, not a guess based on their LinkedIn headline.

See how a consent-based check actually works.
